Will Tonex captures work with a Valeton GP-5?
I have this little unit that has changed the way I practice. Has bluetooth in, drum patterns, and output doubles as a headphone out, too. Really very good amp sims too. It does do full rig "snap tones" (not separate amp and cab). I think thats the same files as tonex's tone captures, but I'm not too familiar with tonex. Does anybody know if I could get some awesome Joe Rodgers tonex tone captures and load them into this tiny unit?

Hey Nathan - Fellow OKC'er here.
In short yes. the GP5 can use IR's. There are several good threads on here regarding IR Captures.
Joe Rogers (the IR King for Pedal Steel) has a bunch of captures that you can purchase and use in the IR slot.
The GP5 also has the ability to use NAM (neural amp models). In side by side comparisons, the uncompressed NAM sounds like the amp it's recreating. The issue is Valeton takes the NAM and converts it to its Snaptone format. The quality of that just isn't there. (yet?) This is an emerging thing and we are really right on the cusp of what I think is going to be a revolution. Tonex set the bar with great sounding captures that weren't crazy expensive. the GP5 and now GP50 created an entry point for folks like me on a budget.
my issue with the tonex captures is if you get them from the tonex site it stores them...somewhere and I can't find them. but the overall answer is yes.

Dr. Guilford,
I hope all is well. Here's a thread where it was discussed at length including with Keith's input. Are you still using a JBL K-130? They're hard to beat!

I feel like this technology is all coming together, there are still some small issues. Having everything preloaded in a pedal takes away most of the latency problems with running things straight from an iPhone or iPad, but it creates new problems with file conversion etc. Eventually I think the hardware will only provide the interface with everything being run from the iPhone or iPad. Using something like a wireless bluetooth pedal to activate different functions. Gear will basically become obsolete.

Yessir - still love the JBL K-130. I have it in its own cab with a poweramp. Way better than any FRFR monitor ever thought of sounding. Interestingly, and I know that it shouldn't, it sounds great even running cabinet emulation into the guitar cabinent. Such a rich sound. Like BB king said, "If it sounds good it is good."David Higginbotham wrote: 8 Jan 2026 5:27 pm Dr. Guilford,

You guys may have seen this in the other recent thread, but I have had success with running NAM files using this APP on my phone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-9Y7i1fuMA They also have a full amp sim and effects APP that runs NAM, but it is more expensive.Keith Parker wrote: 8 Jan 2026 11:29 am Hey Nathan - Fellow OKC'er here.

The APP itself is only $9.99 (I paid 4.99 on sale) so no big investment. Basically you can use the Valeton GP-5 as an interface (or any interface) and leaving the amp sims off and a blank preset slot, you can use the NAM profile of your choice, in the App, along with the effects from the GP-5. This works on my base level iPhone and iPad, but there is more latency (dealbreaker!) than I would like. I believe with an iPhone PRO this problem would be solved based on all the positive reviews of the product. Anyway I would love to hear if anyone has success with this, because it would be cool to have access to NAM, but as pointed out Snaptone falls a bit short.
The only catch with this setup is you need to have your phone plugged into the GP-5, but the nice thing is that the phone will power the device for hours, so it becomes wireless. Oddly some people seem willing to edit the device with their phone, but having it plugged into the phone is a dealbreaker which I can't quite figure out, LOL!
