Shorten aluminum legs
I have two chrome plated aluminum legs that need to be shortened by 1”. Will a hack saw with a fine toothed blade damage the chrome plating? Is there a better option?

Chromed aluminum legs are very touchy to work on. The hacksaw will cut the leg, It will take some precise filing and fitting with a square, Or a lathe to true and square the end to reinstall the threaded part that screws into the guitar body.
Next:
The pedal rods will have to be replaced with proper length rods, Or the pedal rods will have to be shortened. If the pedal rods are roll threaded, The threaded part is larger, And pedal connector is special threaded, To fit. If the threads are roll threaded, It is better to Cut the hooked end and jig bend new hooks on them,
Good luck if you take on this project, Happy Steelin.

Re: Shorten aluminum legs
The tubing cutter worked! I couldn’t get the threaded plugs out of the legs, but the cutter got down to the plugs and let the cut leg piece and the plug come off cleanly. Now I just need to find a couple of plugs. The legs were 1” over standard and the pedal rods had extenders, so no more cutting is required.

If you carefully remove the tubing from the plugs, You can reinsert the plugs in the legs. Just file a flat on tubing till you come to the plug. Then with screw drivers, And vice grips remove the tubing. Take a round file or Dremel tool to remove the burr inside the tubing. And replace the plugs.
You lucked out, Having extenders on the pedal rods. Saved a lot of work.
